  39. 1.1 About File Manager Toolbar
  40. ------------------------------

  42. FM Toolbar is an extender of File Manager for Microsoft(R)
  43. Windows(tm) 3.1, 3.11. It provides File Manager with a toolbar,
  44. similar to that used in File Manager for Windows for
  45. Workgroups(tm).
  46.  
  47. FM Toolbar is a great timesaver. Statistics shows that toolbar for
  48. File Manager is one of two main reasons why individual users of
  49. Windows 3.1 upgrade to Windows for Workgroups (the other reason is
  50. slightly improved performance). FM Toolbar is an alternative,
  51. effective and inexpensive way to upgrade your system. FM Toolbar
  52. will save you a great deal of time! With FM Toolbar your will work
  53. with File Manager easier and faster.

  63. This is NOT a free or public domain software. This is SHAREWARE,
  64. i.e. copyrighted software which you can "try before you buy".
  65. Shareware is a great concept and we encourage you to try out File
  66. Manager Toolbar and pass along the unregistered copies to your
  67. friends.

  69. You may try the program for the evaluation period of up to 14
  70. days. After that time, you are required to purchase the software
  71. through registration or else discontinue its use. (please read the
  72. complete text of your License agreement in section 3 of this file).

  74. Unlicensed copies of our products are 100% fully functional. We
  75. make them this way so that you can have a real look at them, and
  76. then decide whether they fit your needs or not.  Our entire
  77. business depends on your honesty.  If you use it, we expect you to

  85. You may freely copy the FM Toolbar software, and give it to
  86. anybody (please read the full text of you license agreement in
  87. file LICENSE.TXT ). FM Toolbar is a self-unregistering software,
  88. i.e. it automatically becomes unregistered when you copy it to
  89. another disk or computer. You can re-register it any number of
  90. times, but only if you know your Registration Number. This means
  91. that you can make and install as many copies of the FM Toolbar as
  92. you wish on as many computers as you can, provided that you do not
  93. share your Registration Number with anybody and there is NO
  94. POSSIBILITY to use your Registered copy by anybody else. You may
  95. not use a copy of the FM Toolbar registered to anybody else
  96. (except site license arrangements). In simple words, every user of
  97. the FM Toolbar must be licensed.

  99. About Registration Reminder:
  100. ---------------------------
  101. Sometimes when you start or close File Manager, the registration
  102. reminder screen is displayed. This is the ONLY difference between
  103. registered and unregistered versions of the FM Toolbar (unless
  104. you've obtained a newer version of the software from us). In fact,
  105. when you register FM Toolbar, we provide you with a unique
  106. registration number which can be used to suppress the
  107. registration reminder screen.

  109. 1.3  WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU REGISTER File Manager Toolbar ?
  110. --------------------------------------------------------------

  112. 1. The personal Registration Number, allowing you to remove
  113.    registration reminder and put your name in the About FM Toolbar
  114.    screen.
  115.  
  116. 2. Lifetime right to upgrade to new versions of the FM Toolbar
  117.    FREE (i.e. you will be able to use the same Registration Number
  118.    to register any future version of the FM Toolbar, obtained from
  119.    us or other source).
  120.  
  121. 3. Disk with the latest version of the FM Toolbar (optional).
  122.  
  123. 4. The privilege to be personally informed about new major
  124.    releases of the FM Toolbar and other software products from
  125.    ChaoSoft.
  126.  
  127. 5. FREE 90-days customer support through electronic or regular mail.

  129. 1.4. How to register FM Toolbar
  130. -------------------------------
  131.  
  132. You can register your copy of the FM Toolbar software with a
  133. personal check, money order, or currency. Please print out one of
  134. the files listed below, fill it in, and send it to ChaoSoft's
  135. address along with you registration payment. The following files
  136. on your installation disk contain order forms:
  137.  
  138.     ORDRFORM.TXT - single-user order/registration form
  139.     ORDRSITE.TXT - multy-user order/registration form
  140.  
  141. Orders within USA are shipped through USPS, first class.
  142. International orders are shipped via Airmail. To reduce your
  143. possible customs taxes (if any), the contents of the package will
  144. be described as follows: "Letter", (or, if you are ordering a
  145. diskette with the latest version of the software: "Letter;
  146. Diskette"), that almost never is taxable.
  147.  
  148. We understand that in some cases (international orders,
  149. especially) payment with a check drawn on a US bank, written in US
  150. funds, is not always possible. That's why  we accept other forms
  151. of payment as well:
  152.  
  153. o Through an international postal money order from your local post
  154.   office, written in US dollars.
  155.  
  156. o Through American Express money orders payable in US currency.
  157.   They are commonly available in your commercial banks.
  158.  
  159. o You may mail US currency directly to us. Most foreign banks have
  160.   US currency readily available.
  161.  
  162. If you decide to send us cash, we encourage you to obtain a
  163. low-cost "Certificate of Mailing" (USPS form 3817) or equivalent,
  164. or even send your letter certified. It will help us to find your
  165. letter if (that is very rare) Post Office will fail to deliver it
  166. to us. Please, don't include coins; the total payment amount
  167. should be rounded to the nearest "paper" unit.

  171. //      2. INSTALLING File Manager Toolbar

  175. Unlike most other Windows applications, FM Toolbar is not a
  176. stand-alone program: there is no special executable file you would
  177. run to start the FM Toolbar. To use the FM Toolbar software, all you
  178. need is properly install it, and it will be used automatically every
  179. time you run the File Manager.
  180.  
  181. Please follow these simple rules to install the FM Toolbar:
  182.  
  183. 2.1. Using INSTALL utility
  184. --------------------------
  185.  
  186. 1. If not already running Microsoft Windows, start Windows 3.1 or
  187.    Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
  188.  
  189. 2. If the FM Toolbar package came to you compressed, uncompress it
  190.    into some temporary directory on either your hard or floppy
  191.    disk. If you got the package on the original installation
  192.    diskette, insert it into a floppy drive (A or B).
  193.  
  194. 3. Select the File | Run menu option of the Program Manager or
  195.    File Manager, and type into the Run dialog box:
  196.  
  197.                 a:install
  198.  
  199.    and press Enter (or click OK button). If problems occur,
  200.    include the full path to the directory where you have the FM
  201.    Toolbar files placed.
  202.  
  203. 4. The installation program will prompt you for any additional
  204.    information needed.
  205.  
  206. 5. The installation program will copy all the necessary files to a
  207.    specified directory on your hard disk, create the program group
  208.    'FMToolbar', and make an entry in the WINFILE.INI file declaring
  209.    the FM Toolbar as an extension of the File Manager.
  210.  
  211. After the installation complete, you can immediately start using
  212. File Manager enhanced with FM Toolbar.
  213.  
  214.  
  215. 2.2. Manual installation
  216. ------------------------
  217.  
  218. If the automatic installation fails by any reason, you can install
  219. the FM Toolbar manually:
  220.  
  221. 1. Create a directory on a hard disk for FM Toolbar, say
  222.    C:\TOOLBAR, and copy all the files from the FM Toolbar
  223.    installation disk into that directory. If you obtained the FM
  224.    Toolbar files compressed in an archive, extract all the files
  225.    from it.
  226.  
  227. 2. Close File Manager.
  228.  
  229. 3. Open file WINFILE.INI for editing (using Notepad or any other
  230.    text editor). This file is located in the WINDOWS directory on
  231.    your hard disk (or directory you specified when installing
  232.    Windows). Please note: the file you need is WINFILE.INI, not
  233.    WIN.INI.
  234.  
  235.    Find the section [AddOns] in this file and place the following
  236.    string right after the string [AddOns]:
  237.  
  238.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  239.  
  240.    (or specify the directory you copied the FM Toolbar's files in,
  241.    if other than TOOLBAR).
  242.  
  243.    The resulting portion of the WINFILE.INI should look like
  244.    this:
  245.  
  246.         ...
  247.         [AddOns]
  248.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  249.         ...
  250.  
  251.    (... means other lines of the file). Save the file.
  252.  
  253. 5. Run File Manager.
  254.  
  255. You shell find new menu item, Toolbar, among the other items of the
  256. File Manager's main menu, if the installation has been completed
  257. successfully. If you cannot see the 'Toolbar' item in the main menu
  258. of the File Manager, an error has occurred. Please verify that you
  259. have done all the steps above, and, particularly, specified
  260. correct path in the [AddOns] section of the WINFILE.INI file.
  261.  
  262. 2.3. Uninstalling FM Toolbar
  263. ----------------------------
  264.  
  265. You can prevent File Manager from loading the FM Toolbar by simply
  266. commenting out the 'FM Toolbar=...' entry in the [AddOns] section
  267. of the WINFILE.INI file in your WINDOWS directory (i.e. placing
  268. the semicolon symbol (;) as the very first symbol of the string
  269. starting with the words 'FM Toolbar='). Doing so you retain the
  270. chance to return to using the FM Toolbar anytime later by restoring
  271. the string in its original appearance without going through the
  272. reinstallation process again. You can do this procedure with any
  273. text file editor, for example, Notepad.
  274.  
  275. Another way, equivalent to the above, is to rename the directory
  276. you installed the FM Toolbar in. If File Manager cannot locate any
  277. file specified in the [AddOns] section, it just skips it without
  278. any error message. To force File Manager to load FM Toolbar later,
  279. you can restore the original name of the FM Toolbar directory on
  280. your disk.
  281.  
  282. If you, to our regret, decided to stop using FM Toolbar and remove
  283. it from your system permanently, please follow these steps:
  284.  
  285. 1.      Run INSTALL utility from the FM Toolbar installation disk.
  286.         If it detects the presence of the FM Toolbar in your
  287.         system, it gives you a chance to uninstall it without
  288.         actually installing FM Toolbar again. What INSTALL does in
  289.         this case it removes the 'FM Toolbar=...' entry from the
  290.         WINFILE.INI file. It does not delete any files described
  291.         below; you should remove them from your system yourself.
  292.  
  293.         Alternatively, you can perform this step manually:
  294.  
  295.         a) Open file WINFILE.INI for editing, find the string
  296.         starting with the words 'FM Toolbar=' in the section
  297.         [AddOns], and remove it . Save the file.
  298.  
  299.         b) Restart File Manager.
  300.  
  301. 2.      Delete all the files from the directory on your hard disk
  302.         you installed FM Toolbar in (C:\TOOLBAR by default) as
  303.         well as the directory itself, if you wish.
  304.  
  305. 3.      Delete program group 'FM Toolbar' using Program Manager,
  306.         if any.
  307.  
  308. We hope you will change your mind!

  316. Registered users of the FM Toolbar are entitled to FREE technical
  317. support for the first 90 days from the date of registration. This
  318. does not mean that you may not ask questions after that period or
  319. if you have not registered yet, however, we cannot guarantee that
  320. all such questions will be answered.

  322. Please, (PLEASE!) check this file and other documentation first
  323. first. Our experience shows that about 9 out of 10 questions have
  324. been already answered in the documentation.
